Breaking Rocks and MLM?
A while back I was out with my cousin and we found a place with an lot of amethyst (a beautiful purple gemstone) but we had to break the the rocks to get to the gem goodness inside. It is a lot of hard work to crack the rocks after a while, but we don’t just break rocks aimlessly and hope to find the purple stone. There is a great tell tell sign that let’s us know there is something good inside.
When looking for the rocks that have the Amethyst all you have to do is find an area where it is at and look for the veins of quartz crystal running along the outside of the rock and inside there will be the gemstone.
OK, so what does this have to do with MLM?
In MLM we have to prospect, or call our leads back to see which ones will be our gems. You know…the ones that jump into the business and have explosive success and make themselves and you a ton of money. These types of people are likened to the Amethyst that we were breaking rocks for.
Like the vein of quartz revealing which rocks to put our effort into, our prospects will leave signs of the inner gem. First of all is that they have responded to some type of ad or conversation in a positive manner. The second is the way they answer the questions and even the tone in their voice…you have to learn to read between the lines and see what they are really telling you as you conduct the first interview before you ever give them details about your business.
How do we become a master of asking the right question and then listening to what they are saying. You have to learn to read between the lines?
Have you ever had a conversation where someone is speaking with you but they are not really there? I know you probably have. Well this goes two ways in prospecting our leads. If they are just emptily answering questions then they may not be worth pursuing. On the other hand…if you are focusing on what you are going to say next and not on their answer then they will feel that too.
So how do we learn these skills of asking and listening?
The best way is to follow the example of someone that is already good at it. Get on some prospecting calls with someone in your upline that is really rocking the business.
There are also some powerful training products out where the best in the industry show you how it is done.
Both ways are great and I have done both consistently and still do get on prospecting calls to see if there is something that I can improve on. Remember, we always have to be growing and improving for the best results in our MLM.
